We are enthusiastically accepting candidates for showcase and makeover sessions. This is quite possibly the most rewarding aspect of our curriculum, and at the same time the most important contribution you can make to the fabric of the conference. Julie Terberg holds her Marvelous Makeovers session Monday morning, and conference host Rick Altman conducts Real-World Makeovers for the Design-Challenged later in the week. CLICK HERE for more information.
Saturday Evening, Oct 16
For those who come in a day early, join us at the outdoor section of Moray’s Lounge, right outside the hotel lobby, between 6:00 and 8:00p for our traditional get-acquainted happy hour. This is 100% informal and does not require any advance signup.
Sunday Evening, Oct 17
Please join us for our Welcome Reception starting at 5:00p. All are welcome and you do not need to sign up for this ahead of time. You will want to be in attendance, though, as we kick off the conference and the prize train makes its first stop of the four days. The reception will be held in Conference Central (what the hotel calls the foyer to the Kon Tiki Ballroom.
Monday Afternoon, Oct 18
Our after-hours program begins with our now-famous PowerPoint Trivia Contest, featuring 12 contestants competing on three teams for good-natured bragging rights and prizes. The beverages will be flowing immediately after the seminars break and you’ll want to be there to participate or spectate. There is no charge to play or watch, although participant spots fill up fast and you will need to sign up in advance (see below). This event is open to patrons and exhibitors.
Please note that you do not need to be an expert user to participate; puzzle-solving skills, clue-giving skills, and being a good team player are every bit as important as PowerPoint knowledge. And humor and enthusiasm are perhaps the most important qualities of all…
Monday Evening, Oct 18
We will help organize group dinners in and around Pacific Beach. There are dozens of great places to eat, all within walking distance of the hotel.
Monday Night, Oct 18
When you return from dinner, you are invited to head back to the ballrooms and join Ric Bretschneider, former product manager for PowerPoint, for the annual Late-Night Guru Session, a rousing free-for-all discussion about everything and nothing in particular, all at the same time. There is no fee to attend, all are welcome, and RSVP is not required.
Tuesday Morning, Oct 19
Our resident photo expert Rikk Flohr will be leading his traditional Tuesday morning digital photography field trip, in which 15 of you will head out with your digital cameras. A professional field photographer, Rikk will help you identify photo opportunities, work your camera to its potential, and increase your enjoyment. There is no charge to attend, but this special seminar is limited to 15 people and you must sign up in advance. You would return to the hotel after lunch, and if you would like, a bag lunch will be provided that you could take with you. This field trip is just for conference patrons, it fills up fast, and we will give priority to those who have not taken it in years past.
Tuesday All Day, Oct 19
The Summit Expo will take place throughout the day, concurrent with the seminars. There is no extra charge to attend, and you are welcome anytime. During the breaks, many prizes will be awarded.
Tuesday Evening, Oct 19
We are busy plotting some incredible and memorable dining and entertainment scheme and there is an excellent chance that it will involve sand and beach in some capacity. Stay tuned…
Wednesday Afternoon, Oct 20
When we break at 4:00, our team is eager to pack everything up so we can enjoy ourselves that evening. We seek three able-bodied patrons to help us with that and we show our appreciation by holding back a few items in our prize pool and letting you help yourself.
Thursday Morning, Oct 21
Fore! We have tee times reserved at the Riverwalk Golf Course, just 20 minutes from the hotel. We would head over as a group in the morning, play a relaxing round of golf, enjoy lunch, and be back in time to hit the beach, pool, or shops that afternoon. We will receive preferred tee times and green fees and expect that the cost of this outing, inclusive of round-trip transportation, will be under $85. This is open to anyone connected with the conference, including spouses of patrons.
